User Guide

App Header

At the top of any page of MTG Carpenter is the app header. It has the app’s main navigation menu, which displays these links:

  • “Create Deck” takes you to the Create Deck page (to be explained in the next chapter of this User Guide).

  • “Open Deck…” shows the deck menu.

  • “Donate” takes you to a page explaining why and how to financially support the creator and manager of this app.

  • “User Guide” takes you to the User Guide (as you know).

Deck Menu

When you click the app header’s “Open Deck…” link, the deck menu appears. This menu displays all your Magic decks whose data is stored through MTG Carpenter, arranged by name alphabetically.

If you’re using this app on a phone, the deck menu appears as a submenu within the whole menu of the app header instead of as a separately appearing menu.

The deck menu has a list of links, one for each of your decks. Each link is of the deck’s name, as well as of the symbols of the mana colors required by any of the spells contained in your deck (only in its primary card group). The mana symbols are ordered from the most frequent color to the least in the deck, measured both by the number of spells per color and by the number of mana symbols in spells’ mana costs.

To open a deck, click its link in the deck menu, which takes you to the deck workspace with your selected deck’s data. If you open a deck when another is already open, the newly opened deck replaces the previous one in the deck workspace. The previous deck’s data is already saved whenever you change decks.

When you visit MTG Carpenter for the first time, it provides you two sample decks: Dimir Espionage and Primal Genesis. You can modify these decks however you like or delete them.

Note that you can’t use the deck menu to open a deck directly from a deck archive file. If you have an archived deck you’d like to open, replicate it first.

If all decks in the app have been deleted, the “Open Deck…” link in the app header becomes temporarily disabled until you’ve created a deck.
