This page logs the noteworthy changes made in each update of MTG Carpenter. Release notes are ordered from latest to earliest.

If you’ve found that a recent update has caused a bug, please report it to the app developer so it can get fixed!

Releases in 2025

December 27

  • Minor bug fixes, optimizations, and visual enhancements have been made.

December 24

  • Minor bug fixes and visual tweaks have been made.

December 23

  • The explanations of the card sorter’s sorting options have been converted from a bulleted list to a table.

  • Assorted graphical enhancements, minor bug fixes, text-editing, and optimizations have been made.

December 19

  • Various minor optimizations, bug fixes, and visual tweaks have been made.

December 17

  • The List Editor’s card adder has been improved in functionality. If you submit a card name but it turns out to be invalid, then instead of the app immediately showing you an error message, the card adder tries to guess a valid name derived from your query. If there is one, then that name gets added to your deck.

  • Minor visual tweaks and bug fixes have been made.

December 16

  • The app’s whole color scheme has been subtly adjusted. Almost all user interface elements throughout the app have slightly shifted in hue. Some other minor visual tweaks have been made too.

  • In the User Guide, a new subchapter has been added to the Stats Analyzer chapter. This new subchapter describes how the Stats Analyzer calculates the statistics for certain categories.

  • Minor bug fixes have been made.

December 12

  • A bug involving a keyboard shortcut has been fixed.

  • Various optimizations and bug fixes have been made.

December 11

  • In the Stats Analyzer’s “Colors of Spells” table, most of its attributes are colorized, and the attribute for colorless includes the colorless mana symbol.

  • Bug fix for Firefox users: In most of the Stats Analyzer’s data tables, their rows should be arranged from largest card count to least. However, in Mozilla Firefox (and derivative web browsers), the rows had sometimes failed to be ordered in that way. (Other web browsers hadn’t gotten this bug.)

  • Whenever an app update is released, the banner that had used to appear at the top of the page to notify you of this has now been removed. Instead, the update will be applied the next time you navigate to another page within the app. A notification banner still appears after the update has been applied.

  • Assorted bug fixes, optimizations, and visual tweaks have been made.

December 7

This release has further improvements to the Stats Analyzer.

  • The statistics category formerly named “Mana Color Symbols in Costs of Spells” has been renamed “Symbols in Mana Costs.”

  • The statistics category formerly named “Keyword Abilities” has been renamed “Keyword Mechanics.” (This is because, technically, not all keyword mechanics are abilities, but actions.)

  • In the tables for the Supertypes, Keyword Mechanics, and Power/Toughness categories, some of each of their rows now show an icon beside their property’s text label. Additionally, the “Symbols in Mana Costs” category now shows icons for all of its rows, and “Types” shows an icon for the kindred (tribal) type.

  • Minor bug fixes, visual tweaks, and optimizations have been made.

December 5

This release has several improvements to the Stats Analyzer mode.

  • Bug fix: The “Mana Color Symbols” table had not had its rows arranged by card count.

  • In the tables for the “Colors of Spells,” “Types,” and “Star Label” categories, most of each of their rows now show an icon beside their property’s text label.

  • For the table of each the “Mana Values of Spells” and “Rarities” categories, the row having the highest card count now gains bolded text.

  • Minor bug fixes and visual tweaks in the Stats Analyzer have been made.

December 4

  • ✨ MTG Wiki Links ✨ – In the Stats Analyzer, a link to an MTG Wiki article has been added for every statistics category except Star Label. The Star Label category also gains a link, but it leads to a subchapter in this app’s User Guide instead.

  • In the Stats Analyzer, the statistics category formerly named “Layouts” has been renamed “Face Layouts.”

  • In the User Guide’s List Editor chapter, some of its subchapters have been revised and rearranged.

  • Minor bug fixes, visual tweaks, and optimizations have been made.

December 2

  • The deck workspace mode known as List Takeout has been renamed “the Deck Exporter.” Its icon in the mode menu has been replaced with a different icon, too. The Deck Exporter is otherwise identical to List Takeout.

  • Regarding deck archive files, the term “archive” as a verb has been changed to “save to archive file.”

  • Minor visual tweaks to the app and revisions to the User Guide’s content have been made.

November 26

  • A notification has been made to eventually appear for new users to inform them about the faster quantity adjustment control.

  • Improvements to app behavior in scrolling to sections of pages have been made, particularly for the User Guide.

  • Minor bug fixes to the List Editor have been made.

November 15

The changes in this release involve mostly the User Guide’s contents.

  • What was formerly called a “deck project” is now just a “deck.”

  • What was formerly called a “deck project page” is now the “deck workspace.”

  • The chapter formerly titled “Create Deck Page” has been retitled “Creating Decks.”

  • The chapter “Storage of Deck Data” has been deleted, as its content has been merged into the “Creating Decks” chapter as a subchapter.

  • The chapter “Deck Project Header” has been deleted, as its content has been merged into the “Deck Workspace” chapter as subchapters.

  • Miscellaneous minor text revisions have been made.

November 7

  • ✨ Faster Quantity Adjustment ✨ – In the List Editor, you can now hold the Shift key while clicking any of the quantity-adjustment buttons of a card name. When you do so for the increment or decrement quantity buttons, the quantity adjusts by 4 cards at a time instead of 1. For the move-group button, it moves all the name’s cards at once from the active group to the inactive group instead of 1 card at a time.

  • Regarding card names’ quantities, the List Editor keyboard shortcuts for increasing (E) and decreasing (D) them while also holding Shift have been modified to adjust by 4 cards at a time instead of 2.

October 27

  • On the Card List Entry page, additional minor improvements have been made to the handling of submitted card lists.

  • In the User Guide’s “Card List Entry Page” chapter, a new subchapter has been written to explain alternative entry formats.

October 20

  • For the entry form and submission process on the Card List Entry page, various improvements in the user experience and error-handling have been made.

  • Minor bug fixes and optimizations have been made.

October 14

  • Sideboard Designation in List Entry Changed – In the Card List Entry form, the method to designate the sideboard’s card list from the main group’s has been replaced with a different method.

To direct certain cards to your deck’s sideboard, enter the heading “Sideboard” on its own line, and enter the sideboard’s card list below that. All other cards still go to your deck’s main group by default.

(Formerly, the way to designate the sideboard list had been to enter a blank line between the two card groups’ lists. This method is no longer in effect. You can now add any number of blank lines anywhere within the entry form, with no submission errors occurring because of them.)

  • Minor bug fixes have been made.

October 13

  • Terminology change: What was formerly called a “deck page” is now a “deck project.” This change affects mostly only the text of the User Guide.

  • Minor bug fixes and optimizations involving the List Editor have been made.

October 10

  • In the List Editor, the effects of the card sorter’s Mana Colors option has been slightly changed. Now when you sort by mana color, cards are arranged primarily by their number of colors from most to fewest. This means multicolored cards in a list will always be moved to the top. (Formerly, they had been put between the clusters of monocolored cards and colorless cards.)

October 9

  • The app’s error-handling capabilities have been improved.

October 8

  • ✨ “Copy Both Together” Button ✨– The List Takeout page has gained a new button. This button lets you simultaneously copy to the clipboard your deck’s main and sideboard card lists into one combined list.

  • In the Stats Analyzer’s “Colors of Spells” category, the “Colorless” row has been moved from the basic colors subcategory to the color amounts subcategory.

  • Various minor bug fixes and optimizations have been made.

October 2

  • The Card List Entry form is now optionally able to accept lists that use the letter “x” or the times symbol (“×”) to denote card quantities.

  • In the List Editor, when you paste a card name into the card adder, it’s no longer automatically submitted. This allows you to edit it within the card adder before submission. (Pasting a URL to Scryfall card page still automatically submits.)

  • Minor visual tweaks, code optimizations, and bug fixes have been made.

September 28

  • Critical bug fix: A recent app update had a code mistake that had prevented the Card List Entry page from processing any submitted lists. With this bug fixed, card list entry works properly again.

  • The Stats Analyzer’s code has been optimized for better performance.

September 25

  • Bug fix: On touchscreen devices in the Firefox web browser, the card quantity buttons failed to appear when you selected a card in the List Editor.

  • Various minor visual tweaks have been made.

September 22

  • Various improvements to handling errors when trying to add new cards have been made.

  • Minor bug fixes have been made.

September 14

  • A keyboard shortcut has been modified: In the List Editor, pressing Shift+F now moves up to 4 cards (instead of 2) at a time to the inactive card group.

  • Various minor tweaks to the user interface’s behavior and appearance have been made.

September 8

  • A bug involving the removal of starred cards has been fixed.

September 6

  • Various minor visual enhancements and code optimizations have been made.

September 2

This release has fixes for some critical bugs, plus some other improvements.

  • Major bug fix: If you had tried to replicate a deck from a deck archive file, you’d get an error message saying it couldn’t be done because the file’s data was “corrupted,” even if it actually wasn’t. A coding mistake in a recent app update had broken this functionality. As this bug has been fixed, the app’s ability to replicate your decks has returned.

  • Major bug fix: If you had this app opened in multiple tabs in your web browser at once, then, when you’d make certain kinds of edits to a deck in one tab, that newly edited deck data hadn’t synchronized with the other opened tabs. This bug is fixed now, so the app should work reliably with multiple browser tabs.

  • The Stats Analyzer now can have up to five columns of data tables when displayed on wide enough screens.

  • A bug fix involving the app update process has been made.

  • Various minor visual tweaks, especially involving card star labels, have been made.

August 27

  • Bug fixes have been made.

August 26

  • For the List Editor’s card adder, its handling of queries for URLs to Scryfall card pages has been improved. It can now add cards to your deck based on a wider variety of Scryfall URLs than it could before. Most notably, it’s now capable of adding Magic cards in languages other than English. (Submitting Scryfall URLs for cards in other languages only affects the card images, not the card information displayed in the card lists or elsewhere in this app.)

August 25

  • Various minor bug fixes and optimizations have been made.

  • When a deck has a starred card, that card is now shown automatically only when you open the deck (instead of every time you switch to the List Editor from another mode for the same deck).

August 23

  • Major bug fix: The results page for Card List Entry had failed to appear when submitting the entry form.

  • In the Stats Analyzer’s Names category, cards with long names are automatically truncated in the table to fit better within the table.

August 22

  • In the List Editor, when you paste a card name into the card adder when its text field is empty, the pasted name now submits automatically from the card adder.

  • Various bug fixes and code optimizations have been made.

August 21

  • Bug fixes and code optimizations have been made.

August 20

  • For desktop/laptop computer users, the List Editor now has a link in the bottom-left corner that goes to the subchapter on keyboard shortcuts for the List Editor.

  • Various app stability improvements, bug fixes, and graphical tweaks have been made.

August 13

  • Various minor bug fixes and graphical tweaks have been made.

August 11

  • On the List Takeout page, an option to archive the deck is added.

  • A special web font has been applied to monospace text, such as the text that appears in the Card List Entry page’s entry form and in List Takeout’s copyable card lists.

  • Bug fix: In the List Editor, pressing the Q key had failed to open the card sorter’s option menu under a certain condition.

  • Various minor visual enhancements and app stability improvements have been made.

August 10

  • Bug fix: Whenever the app successfully updated to the latest version, the update notification banner had failed to appear under some conditions.

August 9

  • The code framework that MTG Deck Builder is developed upon (Vue.js) has been upgraded from an old deprecated version to the newest version. To adapt to the framework upgrade, much of the app’s code has been overhauled.

From the perspective of you, the users of MTG Deck Builder, you likely won’t notice a difference in the framework’s version. However, it’s a substantial change to the app under the hood. It should make developer maintenance of the app easier in the future, and slightly improve the app’s performance.

  • Various code optimizations, visual enhancements, and User Guide revisions have been made to the app.

July 24

  • Bug fix: There had been another bug involving the Card List Entry page’s warning dialog box, caused by a regression in the previous release.

July 23

  • In the card sorter, the sorting option formerly labeled “Mana Sources” has been renamed “Producible Mana.”

  • The card sorter’s “Producible Mana” method has been partly modified to sort cards by their producible mana colors from most to fewest (instead of from fewest to most).

  • The card sorter’s “Keyword Abilities” method has been overhauled. It now also takes into account the frequency of each keyword ability in your deck. A certain bug that had involved sorting by keyword abilities is fixed as well.

  • Whenever you open the card sorter’s informational pop-up box, it highlights the explanation of the sorter’s active sorting option. This makes the option’s explanation easier to find when you need it.

  • Whenever you turn over the card image of a double-faced card to its back face, the image now remains on the back face until you navigate to another page or until you click the “Turn Over” button again.

  • Bug fix: When leaving the Card List Entry page while the entry form has been filled, a warning dialog box that appears had failed to properly respond to the user’s choice.

  • The colors of some of the card list’s card bars have been slightly adjusted for better visual contrast.

July 21

  • Bug fix: The card sorter’s new “Keyword Abilities” option had failed to sort cards under certain conditions.

July 20

  • ✨ Sort by Keyword Abilities ✨ – The card sorter has a new option that sorts cards by their keyword abilities. For more info, see the informational pop-up by the card sorter menu.

  • In the card sorter, the sorting option formerly labeled “Power/Tough.” has been renamed “Power/Toughness.”

  • For the List Editor’s keyboard shortcuts that move the row highlight to a distant row in the card list, it’s been changed to move a maximum of 6 rows (instead of 5) at a time.

  • Minor colors adjustments have been made to the card bars in card lists.

July 19

  • In the deck page header, the button formerly labeled “Deck Actions” has been renamed “Other Deck Actions.”

  • In the card sorter of the List Editor, the sorting option formerly labeled “P/T” has been renamed “Power/Tough.”

  • Various minor tweaks to the user interface’s appearance have been made.

July 17

  • ✨ Card List Entry for Sideboard ✨ – On the Card List Entry page, you now have the option to add cards to the sideboard of your deck as well as to the main card group. The rules for list formatting have been revised to reflect this change.

  • Various optimizations and error-handling improvements have been made for the Card List Entry’s processes.

July 4

  • ✨ Sort by Mana Sources ✨ – In the List Editor, the card sorter has gained a new sorting option: mana sources! This method rearranges your deck’s cards by their number of producible mana colors and by their particular combination of producible mana colors. This may be especially helpful in decks that have a large variety of lands and other mana sources so that you can more readily distinguish between them.

July 2

  • In the Stats Analyzer, when using a data filter, most statistics categories’ tables automatically get their rows re-sorted by quantity from most to least.

  • Bug fix: In the Stats Analyzer’s Layout category, selecting the “Normal” layout hadn’t filtered card data correctly.

  • Many code optimizations and some visual adjustments have been made to the Stats Analyzer.

July 1

  • ✨ Name Statistics ✨ – The Stats Analyzer includes two whole new statistics categories. One is the “Name” category, which displays the numbers of each card name in your deck.

Though the Name category by itself isn’t very useful, you could refer to it in conjunction with data filters by other statistics categories to understand which specific cards are being currently filtered.

  • ✨ Producible Mana Colors Statistics ✨ – The other new statistics category in the Stats Analyzer is “Producible Mana Colors.” This displays the numbers of each mana color that can be generated among your deck’s cards.

If you have decks in this app that had been created before this version release, then the Stats Analyzer won’t display the Producible Mana Colors category until your deck’s card data set has been updated. If a deck’s data set is outdated, a message will appear on the deck page saying so, and will give you the option to make it update. Newly created decks and cards that you add to any decks after this release will not need to be updated, however.

June 30

  • In the List Editor and Draw Simulator, when hovering your mouse pointer over the card image, the image now rises to a slightly upward position while the page is at a high enough scroll position.

  • Various optimizations and bug fixes have been made.

June 28

  • In the List Editor, a bug involving the “move to other card group” button is fixed.

  • Various optimizations and minor visual tweaks have been made.

June 26

  • In the deck page header’s Mana Colors statistic, the order of mana color symbols is now slightly different: It’s still ordered from most to least frequent, but now it’s by the combined number of the total of number of cards per mana color plus the deck’s total number of each color symbol in mana costs. (Previously, it had been the former factor alone.)

This reordering of mana color symbols is also reflected in decks in the app header’s “Open Deck” menu and the app footer’s “Recently Opened” menu.

  • Decks containing no cards of any colored mana are now marked with the colorless mana symbol.

June 21

  • In the List Editor, the card sorter has a pop-up tip explaining each card-sorting option.

  • In the Stats Analyzer, Phyrexian mana symbols are now counted distinctively from hybrid mana symbols.

  • Significant optimizations have been made to the app’s code, improving performance.

June 17

  • In the List Editor, when you click the quantity text field for any card, the quantity number becomes automatically highlighted so that you can replace that number with a new one right away. (This effect doesn’t work if you’re using the Safari web browser, but you can double-click on the quantity text field instead.)

  • In the List Editor, the card sorter option “P/T sum” is renamed to just “P/T.”

June 14

  • The Donation Request page has an option to donate through Stripe (in addition to the PayPal option).

  • Various minor improvements to the user interface and optimizations have been made.

June 10

  • Parts of the app’s code have been significantly optimized, which should improve loading speed.

  • Various minor visual enhancements and bug fixes have been made.

June 4

  • Major bug fix: A mistake in the previous update had caused all card requests to show an error message, even when the card had been successfully added anyway.

  • The colors of mana symbols are adjusted to be slightly more vibrant, and the colors of card bar surfaces are adjusted to be slightly less vibrant.

June 3

  • The colored mana symbols are now shown as their graphical symbols as seen on Magic cards (instead of being represented by an English letter).

  • Major bug fix: In the List Editor’s card adder, if you had tried to submit a card name that isn’t valid, then the card adder would appear to load forever instead of displaying an error notice.

June 1

  • ✨ In the app’s page footer, there’s a new section where you can see and open your recently opened decks.

  • On a deck page, the ability to rename the deck has been moved from the deck’s name as a link to a new action button in the Other Deck Actions menu.

  • The link to the Release Notes page has been removed from the app’s page footer and put onto the home page instead.

  • Minor bug fixes.

May 28

  • An under-the-hood adjustment has boosted this app’s loading speed. However, it could cause some parts of the app to break, but only for the few people who are still using long-outdated web browsers. If you use any modern web browser, you shouldn’t notice any new problems.

  • Bug fix: If you used this app in the Safari web browser, and if you printed a deck’s lists from List Takeout, then Safari had caused an extra, blank page to be printed if you had enabled the print setting for page headers and footers.

  • Various minor bugs have been fixed, and various minor tweaks to the user interface have been made.

May 25

  • The deck page mode formerly known as Text Renderer is renamed List Takeout. This mode’s icon in the mode menu is replaced, too.

  • Various elements, especially headings and the tabs of the deck page mode menu, have slight visual enhancements.

  • Bug fix: For users of Apple’s Safari web browser, if you had tried to print out a large card list in List Takeout (previously Text Renderer), it couldn’t lay out the list across three columns as it’s supposed to. (This bug had never happened in other modern browsers, only Safari.)

May 23

This release is extra big, with multiple major changes as well as minor ones, as follows:

Major Changes
  • ✨ Multiple Browser Tabs ✨ – You can safely have this app opened in more than one tab in your web browser at the same time. There’s no longer the risk of accidentally undoing your recent edits to your decks on other opened tabs. A technical change to the way this app manages data has resolved that problem.

  • ✨ P/T Sum Sorts Planeswalkers ✨ – In the List Editor, when you sort cards by P/T sum, each planeswalker card is treated as if it has a P/T sum, where its power is 0 and its toughness is equal to its loyalty number.

This change might not take effect immediately for you. If you have a deck that already contained a planeswalker before this app release, then you’ll see a notice on the deck page informing you to update the deck’s data set. For decks to which you add planeswalkers after this app release, or for decks that have no planeswalkers, they won’t need a data set update.

  • ✨ Release Notes ✨ – The app has a new page, Release Notes. (But you already know that!) Additionally, the app’s footer and the app update notification banner each provide a link to this page.

Minor Changes
  • From now on, app updates are identified by their date of release instead of a version number.

  • The user interface for updating decks’ data sets is improved, and the update process is better prepared to handle failed attempts.

  • Bug fix: When you sort cards by mana color, a sorting cluster gap failed to appear in the card list under a certain condition.

  • When you sort cards by first subtype or last subtype, list gaps are no longer inserted between every sorted cluster of subtypes. The reason for this change is that the usually large number of gaps had made the list look too cluttered. One gap is still inserted in the list between the cards with subtypes and the cards without.

  • If you use a mouse, the standard web browser behavior of middle-clicking links is restored. That is, you can middle-click any link to open the linked page in a new browser tab. (Formerly, middle-clicking on internal links in this app had been purposely disabled. The reason was to avoid the bug about opening multiple tabs, but that’s fixed now, as explained in a note above.)

May 6 (logged retroactively)

  • The List Editor has a pop-up tip explaining the different ways you can add cards to your deck.

  • In the Stats Analyzer, the attribute “not starred” is renamed “un-starred.”

May 4 (logged retroactively)

  • Many images throughout the app display in a higher resolution.

  • A graphical glitch in the Stats Analyzer is fixed.
